Bitlocker is for keeping your data safe if someone was to steal your machine (or hard disk), or if it was otherwise lost or misplaced. The comments that it adds to BSODs are only correct if you already have controller or disk hardware issues -in which case, it isn't the fault of Bitlocker, and removing BL at that point to fix it still leaves you with disk and/or controller issues.

If all you want to do is protect certain folders or sections of disk, however, Bitlocker isn't really designed for that. That is what EFS or TrueCrypt is for.
