Black Screen, Mouse Pointer in Center on Bootup

Forgive me if this has been answered, please point me toward the thread with the solution if so.

When I boot my computer, I see "Starting Windows". The screen then goes black and the mouse pointer shows up in the middle. The mouse does not move.

I inserted my Windows 7 disc and went into repair. I tried a restore and a repair. Nothing happened. I should note that also my mouse pointer was not functioning at this time, either. That is, the pointer was in the center and the mouse was not moving.

I hear the fan going on, eventually it stops making noise, not to be confused with the computer shutting off. I guess you call that more of an "idle sound".

I checked the connections. Unplugged and replugged in the mouse. No luck.

    Thanks.

Why is my screen black when I start Windows 7?
