    Defrag question

When I go into Defrag screen, I have 3 choices. HP C, Factory Image and System. The computer shows that system is 12% fragmented, but when I try to defrag it, nothing happens. Is there a reason for this and is there a way to defrag the system?

Hello MTerrell, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Are you selecting a disk and clicking on the Defragment disk button? If so, could you post a screenshot of what Disk Defragmenter looks like after you do, and for what disk you selected?

Disk Defragmenter - Open and Use

Personally I like using the free Auslogics Disk Defrag better since it's much faster.

Here is screenshot of defrag screen. As far as wanting to see what it looks like after I press Defrag, it flickers and goes back to what you see in the screenshot. Nothing happens.Defrag question-defrag-screen.gif

    MTerrell,

Do you have UAC enabled to at least the default level or above?
You might give Auslogics Disk Defrag a try to see if it may be able to defrag it for you.

System just contains files needed for recovery console in case e.g. Windows fails to boot. Defragmenting System is undesirable and isn't necessary - it will not affect performance in any way.
