PC has been slower since last format

Ahh so I do not use my CDs, I just have to download them manually from the vendor's webpage, I can use Win7 without drivers, I can access the internet but I'll see everything in 800x600, but If I can access the web, then there's no need to install the motherboard drivers right? Just the ATi from the vendors webpage and then (when every driver is installed) I use Win7 update to update them?

PS: What if formatting does not fix the issue? Because the last time I formatted this happened too :( (I will format anyways, probably tomorrow!)

Fantastic - let us know how it goes, and when you have the traces (both sets) available.

Wait! If I don't install Motherboard drivers actually I won't hear some things in games, should I install them or just the video drivers? What if Windows 7 update asks me to download/update motherboard drivers? Should I deactivate automatic updates?

Use the drivers which Win7 installer gives during install, then whatever optional Windows Updates delivers after install.

You can import any drivers from the manufacturer's Support Downloads webpage which are missing after install, but I would not change drivers given by the installer or Windows Updates unless performance problems point directly to those drivers.

Heeelp!!! I've formatted and I installed ATi drivers first (without CCC) but in device manager Intel(R) 82801GB/GR (ICH7 Family) LPC Interface Controller - 27B8 is missing so I installed an old chipset driver version I've found accidentaly, then I installed the newer version, then I've installed audio drivers and lan drivers but it still happens what should I do??? :(

Why are you installing drivers which were not missing in Device Manager?

Did you read what I wrote above?

Wait to see if optional Windows Updates delivers that missing chipset driver, then supply only it and any other missing drivers from the manufacturer's Downloads webpage for your model.

Yeah it detected the device now
I'm downloading 2 new updates that have just appeared and then I'm doing the boot trace :D

Okay, I've done both tests but the problem persists (Could it be that this problem goes beyond software? :()

Here's what I did: I installed Win7, I ONLY used the drivers from Windows Update, all of them, when there were no more updates I did defrag C: /u /v and then defrag c: /b (both in an elevated command prompt) in this last one when It finished it said "Could not find files in the registry for boot optimization" or something like that and an error number. So I've restarted my PC as you told me and run a boot trace without any programs other than drivers , said trace is here: Boot_Trace before install.rar

Everything felt just normal, like when I didn't have the problem. So I went on and installed all the programs as I would do normally and when I restarted my PC the start Up took a LOT of time, like 70 seconds (just as before formatting) and then I did defrag again and did another boot trace with all the programs which is here: Boot_Trace after install.rar

Some programs didn't ever appear in the bar next to the time and date but It was a display error because I opened them and still the icon did not appear. Could it be that this is beyond software? I hope I can fix this soon :( I don't know what could cause this :(

Help :(

Between the two traces, here's what I see in the Before vs After traces:
  • Kernel init - same
  • Smss/session init - 10.3 secs / 14.5 secs - difference down to MSE filter driver adding I/O overhead. Note that at this point, all system disk and network I/O is going to be somewhat slower due to the additional filter driver overhead, and throughput appears to be affected to/from the disk as well to a small amount (although all antivirus will cause this, only to what extent depends on the product and your system/driver configuration)
  • Winlogon init - 7.5 secs / 10.3 secs - difference down to MSE and Windows Live startup adding time and I/O overhead
  • Explorer init - 6.0 secs / 9.7 secs - difference down to MSE and Windows Live shell components adding time, as well as the network policy agent enabled via MSE
  • Post-boot - 17.7 secs / 62.5 secs - difference is startup of Origin.exe (EA) consuming almost 50% of total I/O, Steam consuming about 25% of I/O, and uTorrent with about 15%. The other 10% or so goes to the rest of the system, including non-native things like GoogleUpdater, Windows Live, Daemon Tools (which is high in that 10%, by the way), and then the rest of the "native" system, including loading your profile and the shell itself.
I am quite aware that you've mentioned you've never had this issue before, and I would say I believe you. However, I can't speak to the past, only the present - your system delays are almost entirely caused by the software you've added onto it, and the vast majority of it is Origin and Steam, with uTorrent close behind. The system is basically unable to keep up with what it can normally do on your hardware due to the monopoly these programs have placed on the hard disk I/O subsystem during the "post-boot" phase, which is the portion of init after explorer.exe fully loads and the rest of the auto start, taskbar, and user-installed programs start to auto-load.

I'm not sure what to tell you that I haven't already, specifically that if you want to run these programs (specifically steam, origin, and utorrent), you'll have to live with the fact that the games engines you've installed are your major issue. I would also contend that running Daemon Tools for disc emulation isn't necessarily a wise choice for either performance or stability, and I would recommend Virtual CloneDrive instead (drivers are more stable, and program is much lighter overall). The system's disk I/O is somewhat slower due to antivirus install, but it appears to be a very small amount (adding 3 - 4 seconds of time to each phase of boot) that you would get with any antivirus program anyway, so I am excluding that as a major cause (and probably an unavoidable one - MSE is pretty light for an antivirus program, and should be used).

That would 'cover' the problem but not fix it :(

I know I'm not crazy but before the last format (as I already said) I had the same programs, Steam, Origin, CCC, Daemon Tools, Xfire, Utorrent and Avast (now I have MSE) and my PC booted much faster, something must have broke, in the past it only took 30 secs and it's not normal with my specs to take 62.5 secs to boot, that's just insane :(, I had the same software before and never happened this, couldn't it be a problem regarding CPU, GPU , HD or with the floppy? :( ; It's not the only weird problem I had with my PC I have another one but that cannot be fixed until I change all my PC at once (but that's another story) , so it's not that strange that this kind of thing happens to me :(

By the way everytime I Log on I get this error in Event Viewer:

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

I've tried looking it up but found nothing on Google.

Given Windows boots fine without the software added, I would say it's not hardware. If it was hardware, it'd boot slowly in both scenarios (hence why I wanted you to test before and after). As I said, I completely understand that telling you what's wrong doesn't fix things, but at least we are certain (well, at least I am, it seems) that I know what's causing it. What you choose to do about the stuff you've added is up to you, ultimately. Like I said, I can't say how it used to work, nor do I have anything from your machine during the "working" time previously to compare it to so that I can pinpoint what's causing it. Origin is the biggest offender in slowing you down, then Steam, then uTorrent. I'll let the others answer here as to what those could be, as I am old and don't play games or download things from torrents, so I really have no experience with how those things should work or shouldn't.

As to the event log messages, it's been a wierd issue since Vista, but at least there's a KB article to fix it on Vista and Windows 7:

senjougahara, it seems cluberti has specifically identified the cause of your issue. And yes, I know this setup worked in the past, but unfortunately is does not now. Is there even any reason to have Origin, Steam, and uTorrent starting at boot? Surely you could run these manually as needed? You can also set any that run as services to Automatic (Delayed Start), or, and I hesitate to recommend adding yet another program at startup, you can also use Startup Delayer to delay anything not needed at startup.

I know you want everything to work as it did before, but it appears that isn't going to happen. I don't believe cluberti could do anything more to help you as he has provided you with some facts that, while unpopular with you, are none the less facts. If you disable Origin, Steam, and uTorrent, even as a test, I believe you'll see the obvious difference. You might be better served asking on the Steam, or Origin forums why their programs are slowing your system down. I'd say it's time to punt, go around the problem, and enjoy your system. A Guy
