screensaver and power options not working on windows 7

hello first time posting. my screensaver and power options are not working at all. they where working fine a few days ago and then all of the sudden they started to work intermittent and then they just stopped all together. i have a wireless mouse and ive never had any problems with it. when it first started happening i would unplug the mouse and the screen saver would kick on. but now thats not even working i have tried everything i have found on the internet and still nothing is working all the drivers are updated and nothing is running in the background so i am stumped and suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you

Hello Leeopia, and a big welcome to you from Sevenforums!

Here is a tutorial that you may want to follow. Further down you will find specific power plan settings: Power Plan Settings - Change

Now, make sure your computer is up to date by downloading all important updates from windows update, and make sure you have all drivers for your computer installed and the most up to date version. You can go into device manager and select the mouse properties, and make it where the mouse cannot wake the computer up (so you will have to tap the keyboard or use the power button).

I am not completely sure what power options you are refering to, however.

For the screensaver, go into screensaver under appearances and set it according to how you like it best set. If you set your computer to sleep or hibernate, screensaver is not needed. In fact, unless you leave your computer idling for a day or more, screensaver is all but useless. Newer screens require it less and less.
