Win 7 HP (64-bit) with 8 Gb RAM - keeps asking to save V'Mem settings

Hi Folks,

I had bought my Acer notebook a while back, which had 3Gb, but seemed insufficient for my work. Hence, I upgraded it with two new RAM Modules of Transcend make (2 X 4Gb) recently. However, I haven't found any noticeable performance improvement post this huge upgrade. Also, when I check the Virtual Memory settings, it shows that "Currently Allocated - 8054 Mb" and "Recommended - 12081 Mb". The check box on "Automatically allow windows to manage paging file size" is checked by default. Every time I go to this screen, and even though I don't change anything, it prompts me to save the setting and restart windows.

Can someone guide me on what seems to be the problem ? I have checked with Acer on the RAM upgrade and they confirmed that my notebook model can take 8Gb (being shipped with 64-bit Win 7 HP perhaps).

Thanks.

Regards,

Ramesh

1.5x8 = 12 of course.
You do not need it.
You have tons of real memory for your PC. I suggest you leave/set the virtual memory setting at 8G even though this will probably never be used.

You have an abundance of memory for your machine.

Yes, those settings for VM is for Win XP. I understand that Win 7 manages VM much better and it is recommended that the system manages it, instead of manual settings. Have left settings as it is for now.
