No, if they look OK then they probably are. Time to start looking at your drivers, unfortunately.

If you have an intel controller you can use the iastore driver from intel directly... Or if it's a marvel controller a driver from them directly.
But have you tried looking for and disabling the NCQ feature of the driver? (On the sata port for the drive in question).
NCQ seems to be problematic for some drive firmware it seems.
If that does fix it you could try upgrading the firmware on your driver but.. in my case NCQ was actually slowing the drive down anyway besides the drive lockup problem. I didn't miss it at all.

I'm not really sure how to disable NCQ. It appears I have to go through BIOS as well as have a second disk at hand or something? A google search 'disable NCQ windows 7' leads me to the last post of this thread. It says something about needing two drives, which I don't have readily available [don't want to take it from my laptop] and the need for rebooting. Is there an easier process explained somewhere else?

Well the advice to switch from AHCI to IDE may work but is pretty drastic.
Actually are you in IDE mode now? If so then I think we can rule out NCQ right now.
But if in AHCI, look at the second to last post, if you can find a check box on the drive controller hardware settings (advanced tab probably) or the SATA port settings advanced tab (Mine said "NCQ Enable" or somthing like that, you just need to uncheck it and reboot. No BIOS settings needed.
I would only go the route of switching to IDE as the very very last resort. Probably behind updating the firmware on your drive itself which is always a tad dicey...

Likely under IDS/ATAPI controllers a few places down...
Though it may or may not be there, depends on the driver

Is this what you were talking about with the IDE controller? I believe my CD drive is the 2-port (6gbps) and my HDD is on the 4-port.
