New Windows 7 64bit install, now only 32 gig free of 232 gig harddrive

I just purchased and intalled windows 7 home premium 64bit. I have a 250gig hard drive, which now shows only 32 gig of free space. I've done little more than reload some pictures and a few programs I used when I had the computer set up with XP. Any suggestions as to why my hard drive is nearly full or where I went wrong with the setup?

You can download an application such as WinDirStat that will reveal which folders are taking up the space.

Do you have only a single partition, C??

Post a picture of Windows Disk Management if possible.

I had a similar issue, and even though I was installing to a new drive, I ended up with a LOT of stuff in the windows.old folder. Ultimately, it was a BIOS issue, reporting a clean install of Windows 7 on a 2TB hdd as having filled 565GB of 579GB available. I had to partition the drive to use it properly in Windows 7 with my outdated BIOS from barely 3 years ago.

Post a snapshot of Disk Management please:

To open Disk Management, press Winkkey (next to left Ctrl key) +r, type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter or click GO.

If you did a custom install from XP you probably have a Windows.old folder that contains the contents of your previous Windows XP install. If you do have a Windows.old folder you have a couple of options. Copy what you want to keep out of it and then delete it or just delete it if there isn't anything in it you need.
