It would help if you told us exactly what sort of problems you are experiencing and what your system specs are.

However, this tutorial offers many suggestions.

How can i improve my laptops performance??
    1. Perform a Disk Cleanup
    2. Disk Defragmentation
    3. Uninstall all unnecessary programs
    4. Disable unnecessary programs and services from running at every startup (Start > run > msconfig)
    5. Remove resource-heavy security programs ; install programs like Microsoft Security Essentials + Malwarebytes + SuperAntiSpyware
    6. Consider a RAM Upgrade for significant improvement in performance
    7. Clean out the laptop vents using a can of compressed air ; use a laptop cooling pad if your laptops runs hot

At the end of it, you should be happy with the results.

RAM, the disk and the internet connection are usually the biggest bottlenecks.

If it did not come with 4GBs of RAM, I would install that first since you most likely have a 64bit OS.

The most significant performance improvement you can get by replacing the HDD with an SSD. But that is a pretty heavy investment.

If your internet speed is low, no PC upgrade will help. You need to get a higher speed from your ISP.

I assume that you do not venture into gaming because you have no suitable graphics for games - and there is nothing you can do about that.
