Inserted my Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x86 Installation disc (USB ) ran the sfc /scannow /offbootdir=d:\ /offwindir=d:\windows ( d: for me ) inside the command prompt took a little while to start and once I thought it would start I get this error message " Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation "

Just happened across this thread. Are you still having issues? Have you tried doing a sfc /verifyonly to see if that will complete?

You may also find SFC Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation FIX! interesting, though I do not know if it will be helpful.

You could also see if the Microsoft Fixit Tool can repair the problem.

Does Startup Repair work?

Hi Writhziden ,

I am able to complete the sfc /verifyonly . I looked into your links that you gave and those aren't my issues. I am not having an issue with my start up. I could boot into Windows just fine.

I was actually just curious to see if you received the same error trying to run the startup repair. I don't know if it would fix anything, but it might be worth a try. I know you aren't having startup issues, but I believe I read somewhere that startup repair runs sfc /scannow. I do not know if that was accurate information...

I will give a startup repair a shot and see what happens.

Did you ever resolve the Windows Resource Protection problem? I've seen a few other people get this message since you during my help in Crashes and Debugging, so I am curious if you found a solution other than a clean or repair install.
