Service Plug & Play, CPU at 50% after stand-by

    Hi guys,

I have a problem with my laptop. After I put it in stand-by, when I turn it on again I have the CPU at 50% for 3-4 minutes until it finally goes to 0 again.
From task manager, I can see that this is due to a svchost.exe, relative to several services, like Plug & Play and DCOM launch..

I think it's because of the Plug & Play service..what can I do to solve this problem?

I've already unchecked any sound enhancements from control panel, updated any driver and there are no viruses or malwares..

Hello MrEmmeBi, and welcome to Seven Forums.

    Did it always do this?

It may just be the index updating/rebuilding in the background if you have it turned on. You could temporarily disable the index to test and see if it still does this afterwards or not for a few days.

If you have Windows Update set to automatically update, then it could also be it updating.

You could also look at Resource Monitor in the CPU tab and the Description column to see if that may help ID the source of what is running.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Hi, thank you for your answer.
Actually, I'm not sure of what I've done, but it looks like I've solved the problem. I've disabled a few services that looked to be the cause, and now it doesn't act like that anymore.

However, I would like to "refresh" the OS, do you know anything about the non-destructive installation of Windows 7?The one you can do putting the disk of Win 7 in and installing it choosing Upgrade?Do you think it may be useful to solve a few problems I may have?

PS: No, it had never done it, but I can't say when it started..

    Emme,

It depends on the problem, but a repair install doesn't always solve issues.

I have a few problems I don't know how to solve otherwise..
Like, sometimes when I switch to power save mode, the system goes crazy, it gets incredibly slow and I can't do anything, even if I restart it..the only solution is to re-switch to high performance again..
And when I turn the wireless on/off, the CPU goes to 100% for 10 seconds to connect/disconnect from internet, I don't think that's normal either..

    Would it fix these problems?

I would recommend to do a full scan of your system with MalwareBytes free to help make sure that your system is clean first. Afterwards, it wouldn't hurt to see if a repair install may help with this. Just be sure to backup anything that you do not want to lose first to be safe.

I've already tried it, and I've updated all the drivers trough Driver Genius, used TuneUp to solve any problem, but still no improvements..
I guess I'm gonna try a repair installation in the next week!
