custom build. running a lil slow.

I have a custom build cpu thats about 3 years old now. It has an asus p6t mother board. An intel core i7 2.6ghz liquid cooled processor. Nvidia gforce 9800gt graphics card and 3 1g sticks of corsair ram. 500 gig hard drive. Im running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. I just recently wiped my computer to try help it speed back up and it did but im still glitchy playing games and stuff. im thinking its lack of ram. im wanting to upgrade my ram how much ram can i stuff into this thing with 64bit version. i know with 32 your limited to 2gig free ram right. is there a limit to 64 bit. and my mother board has 3 orange ram slots which my ram is currently plugged into and 3 black slots with nothing plugged in what are the black slots for. would i be able to stick my new ram in the black slots and leave the ram i allready have in it is what im asking or do i have to use the orange slots.

The P6T is supposed to support up to 24 GB of RAM. You could use all 6 slots, with 4 GB in each, to get to 24 GB.

32-bit Windows will not address more than about 3.3 GB.

I don't see anything out of date. An Intel i-7 running at 2.60 is still a good processor.

It all depends on what you are trying to do with it.

You may not even need more RAM. What makes you think you need more?

Glitchy and twitchy doesn't say much.

It may have NOTHING to do with RAM.

When it is running slow or being "glitchy" or "twitchy", look at Task Manager or Resource Monitor to see what processes are running, how much RAM you are using, and what is using your CPU cycles.

You may have 100 things running that don't need to be running when you are playing games.

Well, you have no RAM issues. You have over 2 GB available.
