Speed up Windows - Remove Visual Candy ?

Can you really speed up Windows by simplifying the Windows7 / Vista Interface ? If so what would you need to do make the entire windows have a bland, Windows95 look ?

Yes, there will be improvement. This improvement will depend on your system specifications. It isn't essential and you probably wouldn't want the Windows 95 Look.

Apply Windows 95 Look:
Right Click On Desktop > Click Personalization > (Scroll Down and) Choose Windows Classic

You can also disable some or all visualization effects:
Right Click Computer > Click Properties > Click Advanced System Settings > Click Advanced Tab > In Performance, click Settings > Choose Adjust for best performance.

If you will fill your System Specs in SevenForums, I may measure how effective this disablement is.

To Speed Up Windows in General:

If you want to speed up your Shut Down, there is a Tutorial here

Just before Cleaning via CCleaner, run Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter.

I would download and open CCleaner and use CCEnhancer for more features. Then go to the Clean Tab, Analyze and run the Cleaner. Next go to Tools (NEVER GO TO REGISTRY) and select Startup, select them all and select Disable and then Remove.

Then click on CCleaner's Uninstall Tab and remove anything you don't need or use. Ask here if you are unsure if it is safe to remove or not, or you could Google it.

Next, read these articles:
99 ways to Make Your Computer Blazingly Fast
Note   Note
This guide was intended for Windows XP, but I would ignore Step 2, Step 10, Step 11, Step 16, Step 28, Step 37.

I would next run an SFC Scan and a Check Disk Scan.

What I do as soon as I get a computer os open MSConfig, select the Boot Tab and select No GUI Boot, this will disable the Boot Animation.

I would also use MSE and Malwarebytes to check for Viruses and Malware.

Unless you have a really crappy graphics card. Turning off Aero and the other effects will not improve your performance. It might improve your perception of performance. But no. All of the pretty effects of Windows Aero run on the GPU.

Again, removing the eye candy won't do any thing. Graphics cards don't even break a sweat computing them. Its sad to see...that so many people still do not understand this.

If it's pointless, I'll just modify the performance and read some of the links mentioned. Hopefully come to a balance
