I just copied this part of d:\boot\bcd to your current boot menu (S:\boot\bcd)

identifier {572bcd55-ffa7-11d9-aae0-0007e994107d}
device partition=D:
path \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
description Windows Recovery Environment
osdevice partition=D:
systemroot \windows
nx OptIn
detecthal Yes
winpe Yes

And and recoveryseqence to it. And enabled recovery.
======================
We could have done it much easier (most likely) by just marking D partition ACTIVE, so forcing boot from D. So forcing d:\boot\bcd to load.

But what if that didn't work????? You have no windows vista dvd to fix things. Most likely you have nothing to fix things (??)

Test if it's working a second time... don't do the actual factory reset. Works?
What the hack did break it?

Hi
I have the same problem with my laptop Dell studio 1555. I would like to reset it to factory settings but when I press 'repair your computer' in the advanced boot manager F8, nothing happens and win 7 is loading.
I tried to study this post and follow the way you have helped the other guys but I couldn't fix it myself.
Please, can you have a look at my bcd.txt and see if there is anything that can be done to sort it out.

Why do you want to revert to factory settings?

Post screenshot of disk management please.

[HarddiskVolume2]\Recovery\WindowsRE\Winre.wim is on your system? After posting disk management I gave you instructions how to do it.

Thank you for your reply.
I want to give the laptop to my daughter and I have used it for 2 years and its full of random software that slows it down a lot.

I have attached the screen, I am not sure how to insert it here.

in disk management right click on partition RECOVERY and assign it a drive letter (at least temporary, you can remove it when done testing). Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows
give it drive letter P please.

then in Elevated Command Prompt

Code:
attrib  p:\Recovery\WindowsRE\*.*
post screenshot.
