notebook will go to sleep but will not wake up

Hi,

I am helping a relative with an HP notebook running a fully patched version of Windows 7, Home Premium. The notebook will go to sleep but will not wake up.

I started working my way through your tutorial over on the Vista Forum (How to Troubleshoot a Vista or Windows 7 Sleep Mode Problem) and I set the Advanced Power Options to the Hybrid Sleep settings you defined based on the Powercfg command saying that only S3 was available on the system (not sure if this was correct option to choose from the three presented, but that is how I set the options). The settings changes did not fix the wake-up problem, so I continued down your script.

I got to section on running the various Powercfg commands (see dump of Powercfg commands and results below) and through this determined that there are none of the expected wake-up devices listed in the results, such as the notebook's keyboard, the notebook's touchpad or the external (wireless) mouse. The power switch does not wake-up the computer either.

I then started to check in Device Manager to see if these devices had a Power Management tab that would allow me to enable them to wake-up the computer. None of the devices had power management tabs on their properties pages. I also checked the USB hubs: these had power management tabs but the option to enable wake-up was greyed out.

I have not been able to check the BIOS yet as I am in Canada and my relative is in England. I will checked this out when I can arrange a time my relative is available (there is an 8 hour time-zone difference). I also ran SFC and it ran clean.

In the mean time, do you have any ideas or suggestions of where I can go from here, and any ideas why there are none of the expected keyboard/mouse devices in the wake_armed list? Thank you.

on my toshiba I have wake-up options in BIOS for wake up on LAN and wake up on keyboard.
not sure about wake up on mouse or USB.

I think you'll have to look into BIOS anyway.

Thanks for the reply codekiddy. There are no wake settings in the BIOS for any device - I downloaded and checked the HP Maintenance Manual.

I have an issue with the sleep function. The computer does not awake from sleep. When I try to do it, it behaves as if it was waking, but it never ends and there is only a black screen; the mouse and keyboard are inoperative. The only thing possible to do is a hard reboot. When it boots, it shows a...

Notebook going to sleep and waking up on it's own
Last night I put my Sony Notebook to sleep as I do almost every night.
