Two gigs of ram is the absolute minimum (64 bit) for just your basic surfing. Add gaming and you will soon run out of memory.

Previously i had 3 GB RAM on 64 bit and frankly it was not enough for heavy stuff and more than browsing.

Your RAM usage is normal under these conditions.I would advise to upgrade your RAM to atleast 4 GB.DDR3 RAM's are pretty cheap these days.

Visit this site RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, SSD at Crucial.com and have a check of how much RAM your system can support. You can always buy 1x2 GB RAM stick or 1x4 GB RAM stick.

Windows 7/64 don't really get going until you stick at least 4 gigs of ram in it.
Filling in your specs would help us help you.

I have 4 gigs of ram in both my windows 7 pcs and I'm thinking upgrading to 8 gigs in my laptop to speed it up. My laptop runs. Core2duo processor and ddr2 800, it's a older 1530xps.

My computer would literally freeze for a minute then kick back in again.

Has anyone else noticed that chkdsk uses all available physical memory (if you let it run long enough)? I find that if I run chkdsk and watch the memory usage in task manager it jumps by about 50MB every 2 seconds or so until it either finishes or hits around 3.2GB at which point my physical...

The thing is this happens occasionally when I'm normally browsing Chrome, the memory usage goes up to 3,89GB out of 4GB out of...

As above. Under task manager, the ram usage will hit up to 90+% , causing the computer to slow dramatically. Is there any way to track down what program is causing the issue ? I encountered the windows popup saying that "Memory is low, please close xxx program" . So far, the xxx program...

Extremely high physical memory usage
Hi, about two weeks ago I saw that my computer used a lot of memory (3/4GB). It hasn't been changing a lot in the past two weeks. Now, what could I possibly do to prevent my computer from using so much memory? The only programs I have opened are Firefox, Nettalk (IRC Client), Thunderbird,...

Windows 7 random CPU usage and high physical memory usage!!!
Ok, I am literally KILLING myself over this! I installed Windows 7 64Bit over XP around a month ago and it was so good that I recommended it to my brother who was previously on XP too. We got him a copy of the 32bit version as he has only 2gb of memory, and he installed it on his machine....
