auto save password and id erratic

    Hello,

I have long used the Windows feature of saving passwords and User ID's as I can't remember them.

Now this works pretty well and I ten to stick to one of several passwords to help.

I've recently had a problem where these passwords, and sometimes user ID's are not saved at all.

This happens on some sites who prevewnt I know but this is happening on sites where it's always been saved and has just stopped.

One site I can save the password for one session but later it is gone.

WHat do I do to fix this. I haven't changed my cookie settings for many a moon and regularly clean out any that get through.

Help, I'm cinfused, but not dazed.

Its not a windows feature but your browsers feature which stores and saves your passwords.Btw which browser you are using?

In some sites you need to tick the box at login page which says "remember me".That way when you visit the said site in next session it directly logs in without the need to type in user id and password provided you saved the password for the site in the first place.

    Thanks

    Hey appreciate your response.

It's IE7 of course. And yes, I always tick the "Remember me" box. I hve checked the save passwords box under the content tab and it still plays games. The email I got notified of your response had the p/w saved this afternoon. Now it's gone again.

Is it possible a file may be full or something simple like that? Or perhaps I'm simple??

    Thank you

    Paul

First of all i would suggest to stop using IE7 completely. Its an outdated browser but i am surprised how you are using IE7 on windows 7 since windows 7 initially came with IE8 in the first place

Update your Internet Explorer to IE9 ASAP as the security implications of using IE7 are great.

Download and install other browsers like Google Chrome,Mozilla Firefox etc and check if the same password problem reoccurs.

BTW, running disk cleanup or ccleaner deletes those things, depending on settings.

I'll have to check my old notes, but I believe that the username/password pairs are encrypted in index.dat itself, and if that gets corrupted in any way you get odd issues. To resolve it, you'd have to clear out the temporary internet files completely, and also delete index.dat for the user (which can potentially be not easy to do).

Is it OK if I wait for you to confirm from your old notes?
