windows 7 used to be fast now extremely slow ??

Hi
I was wondering if I could get some advice. My desk top used to be what I considered very fast and now same computer alot slower.

If it is comming out of an idle mode it will take at least 3 minutes to load a web page. The hard drive is working very hard, it is always running and the light blinking sometimes when not even being used.

After being used for 5 min. or so the web pages do load faster but not as fast as they should.
Sometimes I get a I.E. not responding message. It's almost like the hard drive is checking something or doing some other work at the same time.

I have to the best of my ability cleared out old files and cleaned up what I can. The hard drive is maybe 25% full.

Specs: Dell studio XPS
Intell 2.67 GHZ
Ram 3. GB
64 Bit
I am running Kaspersky anti viris and have run the scan more than once, it says no problems.

any advise greatly appreciated. Thank You, Tom

DLoad install and run StartupCPL from Mike Lin...
Small handy app that places a Startup icon in Control Panel and gives you complete control of any and all apps that are running in the background...

NOTE: Do NOT disable something if you don't know what it does...

You need to look at Windows Task Manager and Windows Resource Monitor to get an idea of what processes are running when your PC is bogging down. Also look at RAM and CPU usage with those same two programs.

And you could run msconfig and look at the services and startup tabs to see what unnecessary stuff you may have running--needlessly.

When it comes to disabling or setting them to manual instead of automatic, which you need to open services.msc (type into run line on start menu) I feel there is better and safe guide than here. Black Viper’s Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Service Configurations | Black Viper | www.blackviper.com

You could also try enter the safe mode and perform a scan with your Kaspersky and antispyware programs like Superantispyware without internet connection. A defragmentation of the hard drive might help too.

Ok thanks, this stuff is over my head but I will read up on what has been suggested and try to turn off a few things.

Thanks, Tom

Extremely Fast HDD
Any recommendations on Fast Drives that can save large files 8+ gigs in a matter of seconds. I have a USB 3.0 drive, even though it's connected to a 2.0 port, I'd still prefer something more faster, besides I want it to be internal.
