    Memory Assessment Speed

    Just a curious question;

    I ran winsat mem a couple of weeks ago and got a 13600+ read.

    Ran it today and got 15985 read.

    Only system change was adding a Radeon 6670 Video card.

    Does memory speed change this much ? What might cause the disparity ?

    I assume prior to the HD 6670 you were using the onboard video, if so that would be where the difference comes from. The onboard video shares/gets it memory from the system memory (up to 512 MB), and it got freed up when you added the video card.

    I got the same thing if I enabled the onboard video on my old computer (used for a third monitor). The WEI memory score was/is higher when the onboard is enabled and lower with it disabled.

    I understand the AMOUNT of memory increased, but the memory is the same whether it's being used by the onboard video or windows explorer. I thought winsat mem tested the SPEED of the memory regardless of the amount involved.
    Oh well, another mystery of the computer age.

    Next question is, if you remove the Radeon card does the score go back up?

    It's the other way around. ADDING the card increased the memory speed.
    So, if I took out the card, I would guess the speed would go back down to
    the 13600+ area ? I see no difference, in real world applications, of the speed increase anyway. Oh, it's always been stock timings, etc.
