I'm quite surprised to here you say that Vista was alright with 1GB of RAM. My experience shows that 7 is a bit easier on the system resources. Either way, I'd see about bumping up the amount of ram you have.

when this is happening, in process tab is anything shown as using the memory? Does it stay that way or release without re-booting?

I'v used vista ultimate for about 2years on my current system without hassle, even during (light) photoshop use.

No there are no process to account for the increase in memory usage and the only way to solve it but sometimes after a while it goes away.Im taking long to reply becasue its happening right now.

Should I try a fresh install again?

If it wasnt doing this all along in win 7 a clean re-install would help. Since it didnt do this in vista it shouldnt in win 7

I agree with ziggag on this one....you really shouldn't be having this problem. Of course, neither of us have likely run Win7 on a box with 1GB of RAM either.

i can confirm that 1gig is sufficient to run 7. my memory usage has yet to exceed 60% with all my usual apps running (A/V, Firefox, media player, etc)

im puzzled at your issue. maybe a fresh, clean install WILL be the best thing to fix this.
