Recovering Desktop Icons

All of the desktop Icons on my Father-in-Laws laptop have disappeared. He says he didnt do anything to cause it to happen. I have tried various methods read on this forum , to no avail. They are not in the recyle bin, and do not appear if I try to re-create them. Any Ideas? Thanks in advance.

Did you try right clicking on the Desktop, select View then Show Desktop Icons?

Try running a malware scan with Malwarebytes: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Download.com
If that doesn't work, try running system restore by going to start and typing system restore and hitting enter.

Thanks for the quick response. I don't think I've tried that yet. I will try and let you know.
