Turn drag drop into cut instead of copy?

    Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the right section but anyway, I'm wondering if its possible to turn drag/drop into cut.
For example: when I have to folders open next to each other, and I select a bunch of files from the left folder, and I drag / drop them to the right folder, it copies the files...

I was wondering if its possible to change that, because its pretty annoying. And as far as I remember, vista always used to move them, instead of copying...

    Thanks

Hi Necrowizard and welcome to Se7en Forums

Instead of left clicking and dragging, right click and drag. When you release the mouse button you will be given a choice whether you want to move the file(s) or just simply copy them.

Hold SHIFT while click and drag. Menu will pop up asking which action to apply.

    That worked better...

You didn't expect me to test it first, did you?

Actually, I did test to confirm. But after reading your comment, I had to go back and test again. I could not duplicate your result. And then I realized that muscle memory was in control - I was right clicking.

One of the nice aspects of Windows going back a few generations - so many different GUI/cmd methods of doing the same thing.

i like to think that the shift key 'shifts' the files from one place to the other...:)

Exactly the kind of shift i would expect from a shifty eyed cat lover.

Cough, cough... that is some really good shift, man.

There are 3 functions of drag+drop using extra keys in the manner above:
    • SHIFT - move the file/folder.
    • CTRL - copy the file/foloder.
    • ALT - create a shortcut to the file.
