Services and Startup! What to keep?

Hello,

My new laptop, a Toshiba Tecra R840-16J (I7-2640M @ 2.8 GHz + 8 GB RAM + 500 GB 7200 rpm HDD) came with lot of software I do not use or want!!!
I already unchecked some sw from the startup but I need advice in how to get my machine boot quicker (an SSD :-) ).
I use Norton 360 v6 as my AV and a bluetooth mouse. I'm allways connected via WIFI not cable!

I would appreciate any help in how to improve my startup/boot time!
Please my checked startup sw!

Regards,
paulo

There is no doubt that the absolute final word on which services are needed is Black Viper's configuration sheets.

Maybe someone with a Toshiba could advice me about all that sw!
My reboot time with all those startup items and a crazy number of services is 66 seconds!

Black Viper hasn't been needed since Win7 set all Services not absolutely needed at boot to Manual with fast triggers. Win7 at that point became the Black Viper.

Since you asked about Startup here is how to Clean Up Factory Bloatware. You want to follow the steps given to achieve a Clean Boot to get all of the freeloaders out of your startup. I would also consider using a lightweight AV like Microsoft Security Essentials with the Win7 firewall kept automatic Updated.

Disable ALL startups. Nothing will happen. Norton has it's own startup scheme and does not appear in the startups. The rest will start when you need it.

But you will still end up with appr. 50 startup processes. Run Soluto for fine tuning. https://www.soluto.com/

Avoid Dark Viper like the plague!

Do not touch any of the Microsoft services.

Now after saying that I will suggest that you visit:
MaximumPCGuides. I'm signed up for their RSS blog where they continually and frequently give a detailed discussion of a service and whether one can safely disable the service. Never, never, never delete a service.

Upload the three files listed below and I'll make suggestions.
Install CCleaner:
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

list of STARTUP PROGRAMS

CCleaner | Tools
icon | Startup button | Windows tab |
click on Save to text file button (bottom right side) |
accept Startup.txt as file name | SAVE button

list of SCHEDULED TASKS

CCleaner | Tools
icon | Startup button | Scheduled Tasks tab |
click on Save to text file button (bottom right side) |
enter Scheduled Tasks as File name | Save button

List of INSTALLED PROGRAMS

CCleaner | Tools
icon | Uninstall button |
click on Save to text file button (bottom right side) |
accept install.txt as File name | Save button

UPLOAD the startup.txt file
UPLOAD the Scheduled Tasks.txt file

Many thanks for your kind replies :-)
I'm experimenting now...I've already completely unistalled Norton utilities and Ghost! I kept 360 v6 for the AV! And I've created a custom diagnostics-performace boot time and boot degradation in the Event viewer to study all my boots! (I'm learnig, which is nice).
From now on I will only use MS defrag utilitie not third party ones!
And I disabled all automatic "optimization" processes in my laptop (like the one in Norton...).

Appart from a periodic defragmentation and an updated AV what do you recommend to keep my computer in good shape (preference in using MS utilities and no 3rd party ones) ?

Here my boot optimization after some tweaks:

paulo

You should delete the temporary files from time to time. But for that you best use CCleaner (very safe program) - there is no equivalent Windows function that is equally convenient. Download CCleaner 3.18.1707 - FileHippo.com
