Alt-Tab Return to game is slow (15-25s)

    Hello,
I am experiencing a 15-25 second delay alt-tabbing back into games/full screen applications in Windows 7.

I recently was running Windows XP on a gaming laptop 4GB Ram, Dual Core i5 with dedicated nVidia card. While playing games I could alt-tab out to check e-mail, messages, music, etc. Alt-Tabbing back in would be instant.

I finally made the switch, and ran a clean install of Windows 7 Pro x64. Everything is running great and is faster. (I've run my updates and have an anti-virus etc).

Now in Windows 7, playing the same games, the Alt-Tab in gives me a black screen for 15-25 seconds before I can resume play. The hardware is the same. The system is clean.

I have tried disabling Real-Time Protection on anti-virus > No luck.
I have the same resolution in and out of game.

The game forum developers mention that Windows 7 is moving resources out of memory and back in during Alt-TAB which is the reason for the slowdown.

Is there a way to change the settings to just keep the applications in memory or anything of the sort to fix this slowdown? I Love Windows 7 compared to XP; however, it is frustrating that this one aspect is so incredibly slow.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The only potential fix relating to memory that I can think of is to get rid of the paging file and see if that helps. That way the game will copy everything into RAM, which is much faster. What game are you running? Have you checked for driver updates for your video card?

To alt tab the fastest run the game in FULL SCREEN WINDOWED mode.

It will have same rez as the desktop and alt tabs will be fast.

If you are getting system slow down after a alt tab and run a Nvidia card like gtx 560 570. Its an issue with the drivers.

    Driver 296.10 seem fine

Don't use 301.42 that driver has horrible issues alt tabbing.

Hope one of those solutions helps.
