terribly slow performance
Hey everyone. This is my first post here. Seems like there's a lot of smart people here so maybe someone can give me some help.
This weekend I installed Windows 7 x64 RTM. With this new install I also installed a new motherboard (gigabyte ma790x-ud4p) and new hard drive (western digital caviar black 750gb). At first everything seemed to be working just fine. Later on I updated the soundcard, videocard and main chipset drivers. After installing the drivers my performance has gone downhill. Here are some problems I'm having.
1.) If I try to extract an .rar file and run another program, the system nearly stops responding.
2.) Copying files is very slow. Took 2.5 hours to transfer 100GB between to internal sata drives. The files were being copied at about 9MB/s.
3.) If scrolling a web page, the scroll will halt for about a second sometime during the time of scrolling.
4.) Running HD Tune on the new hard drive shows that it has an average transfer rate of 20MB/s where the other hard drives are around 90MB/s.
5.) Raxco PerfectDisk cannot perform a system files defrag on the non-operating system hard drives. It says the files are locked. It was not like this on Vista.
6.) I cannot disable write caching on the new hard drive.
I've uninstalled all the updated drivers and am now back to the standard Windows 7 drivers. I've disabled all visual animation effects. I've defragmented all three hard drives I have.
I'm at a loss of what could be causing the problem. Hopefully someone can shed some light on the subject and give me some help. Thanks in advance!
