    Windows 7 casuing FPS drop?

Hi guys i recently installed windows 7 and its awesome. However when I play a game like Wolfenstein or something it crashes within 5 minutes. After it crashes ALL other games I try to run drop by about 25+30 fps. The odd thing is after I restart my PC the problem goes away until it crashes again.

    What Ive done so far:

Ive already checked my temps and they never go about 48c for the CPU and 70c for the GPU.

Ive used GPUZ to check if my PC was throttling back the PCI x16 to something lower.

I ran Nod32 and adaware and malwarebytes. And i defragged.

Im really at a loss, is this a windows 7 bug? because if it is this a biggie.

First welcome to the forums Firewarrior!!

Did you install Win 7 over another operating system or did you install it clean? I had a lot of problems when I installed 7 without a complete reformat!!

That's a question hovering in my mind. When I installed Windows 7, it saved my old Vista install into a Windows.old file. Would that affect my Win7 install?

It is always best to do a clean install! Back up your important data to a separate hard drive, delete the partition of the drive you want to install Win 7 on and then reformat when prompted. When you install over top of an existing OS you eventually will have issues somewhere down the line. With a clean install everything is golden!!!

No it wont affect your Windows 7 install at all... you may want to browse through the folder though and keep what you need/want and then delete it..

Sounds like a pretty straight forward video driver issue. After the prgram crashes (probably also due to the video or sound driver) it leaves the video Dirext X or whatever in a bad state.

BTW with a G285 and the latest 190 drivers from nvidia I've played though 5 hours of Wolfenstein without a crash. So maybe update the video drivers and you may be good to go.
