windows slows down drastically when connected to the internet I've installed windows 7 64bit on a brand new 500gb hard drive.
I've installed the basic software, i.e. antivirus and firewall.
I've ran and installed all windows updates.
The system runs beautifully until I connect to the internet.
As soon as I do this the whole system slows down to a snails pace.
Opening directories, starting software, browsing, everything.
once off the internet everything returns to normal.
Any pointers? | My System Specs |

Welcome to SF sledgehkg
Your post is not very clear.
You say that Quote: I've ran and installed all windows updates. How did you download the updates if you aren't connected to the internet? AFAIK, we need to be connected to the internet to download the updates, doesn't matter if you're connected or not while installing them. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1 CPU Intel Pentium(R) E5200 @ 2.50GHz Motherboard Intel Corporation DG41WV (PROCESSOR) Memory 4096 MBytes Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 398MHz Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 5450 (ASUStek Computer Inc) Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays DELL E170S on ATI Radeon HD 5450 Screen Resolution 1280x1024 pixels Keyboard Logitech PS/2 Keyboard Mouse A4 Tech Co Ltd/Logitech PSU 400W Case Nothing Fancy Cooling Fans Hard Drives 466GB Western Digital WDC Internet Speed 512 Kbps Antivirus Microsoft Security Essentials & Malwarebytes Browser Chrome & Internet Explorer 9 Other Info Imation 8 GB USB, 6 GB Seagate External Hard drive, ASUS DVD-E818A7T ATA Device |

How are you connecting to the internet?
Wireless? Ethernet?
If wireless you may want to check you have updated wireless adapter drivers. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion Elite 495UK OS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-Bit CPU Intel Core i7 870 @ 2.93GHz Motherboard MSI 2A9C (CPU1) Memory 8Gb Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 664MHz Graphics Card nVidia GeForce GTX 460 1024MB dedicated RAM Sound Card Realtek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays HP2310i Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech K750 solar-powered keyboard Mouse Logitech Wireless M180 mouse PSU 460W Case HP Elite Cooling Air cooled Hard Drives 1x1954GB Hitachi HDS22020ALA 330 (RAID), 1x1954GB Hitachi External for backup and storage Internet Speed 2Mb Other Info Pure Avanti Flow Internet Radio with iPod Dock, 64Gb iPod, HP USB Speakers, Sony MDR-V500 Headphones, Sony Vaio F-Series Laptop |

sorry, you are correct.
I did updates at my office using a wireless internet connection.
The client has a BB connection at his home.
I did not notice any major slow-down when using my wireless.
when the client connects thru ethernet, the whole system basically stalls. | My System Specs | | |

In that case, you need to make sure your ethernet adapter has the right drivers and is set up correctly.
