    Free burn-in or system tester?

    Hi all,

I have come into a newer laptop. A friend had spilled a bunch of liquid on it and it refused to start. He got a replacement laptop and gave me this one. To make a long story short, I took it apart, cleaned everything, replaced a few things and it is now running.

What I would like to do is test it so it can become my new, everyday laptop. Does anyone know of free software that I can use to test it? Something that will stress the system?

    Any help appreciated,
    Rob

You could run ordinary hard drive tests from the drive manufacturer's web site to evaluate the hard drive.

There are also downloads like Prime 95 and Furmark. The former stresses the processor and RAM; I think the latter is mostly to stress graphics. Both are used by overclockers to put heavy stress on the PC to evaluate temperature levels.

You could also use Memtest86+ to test the RAM.

I'm not sure about other components such as the motherboard or power supply. If you don't have specialized tools, you may just have to use the laptop and see how it works out.

Because laptops don't cool as well as desktop I would watch the temps very closely when using Prime 95 and Furmark.

Thanks everyone for the help. I'll look into the furmark and prime 95.
