Windows 7: Winamp SLOW folder contents display

Winamp SLOW folder contents display

It has probably been asked, I searched for slow folder contents and couldn't find anything useful.

When I use the "open" in winamp(and any media player) windows takes a long time to display them. Even then, it displays only a few at a time and constantly updates the list, refreshing it each time so it goes back up to the top. It can take a minute or more for big directories with many file types.

Is there a way to force windows to NOT scan the contents of files and rely only on their extensions?

Related but to be asked elsewhere. Can I force windows explorer to not remember folder view settings? I don't even bother using windows explorer for most things. Any folder with an MP3 is displayed as some media crap and I have to manually add the correct details every time.

bah, forgot

Superfetch is disabled as it is loud and annoying. Had the same problem with it turned on.
