I am going to boot later today. I will check my settings. I have something set that works nicely for me. My machine idles at 1.67 and peaks at 3.2, runs mostly at 2.67. No wild fluctuations.

Not much of an OCer and I did struggle to get it right. But I really like what it does.

personally i have my 3 ghz chip overclocked to 4 ghz, and i leave both eist and c1e turned on.

it all works fine on my motherboard, my chip runs at 2.6 when idling, but jumps to 4 when i need the extra oomph.

i don't slow my chip to prolong its life, it's the fan speed/noise that i am concerned about.

I leave the SpeedStep functionality enabled to reduce my power consumption. No sense sucking extra power when the PC is at idle.

Somebody does. If it's your parents, then by paying more for electricity it's less money they have to buy other things...even stuff for you.

Yes, but my dad makes plenty of money. And I buy my own things. So really, nobody misses out on how little it really costs for electricity. Compared to what they leave on, anyway. :)

I disable those features.... Maximum performance 24/7!

This life prolonging issue. Come on. You are going to change your CPU in the next couple of years anyway.. It's not like it's going to cut it's life span short by 2 years or something..

Maximum performance 24x7. But what if you only need that power for 7 hours a day? Constant performance = more energy use = more heat in the room = more cooling to keep it comfortable = more noise all the time.

I have the cooling down... My room also has air conditioning.. My music is playing most of the time so I don't hear the "noise". If I do hear it it does not bother me...

Come on.. My office is IN the server room.. You really think a little overclocked CPU is going to affect me?

    So, where do you work?

I will not address your mistaken idea about the "low cost" of electricity.
