Many a things wrong with my PC.....?

Okay. Get ready to be overloaded with questions! 1: I'm not sure why, or how. But cannot shrink volumes on my 3rd hdd. It's the whole "The service cannot be started, eithe because it is disabled or because it has no enabled....etc" I don't know how to enable the Disk Defragmenting Service, as advised from anothe thread. 2: Is it possible reset Windows 7 Administrator rights without clean install? Having a few issues with Regedit/ delete storedirty. 3: How would I go at installing Windows XP Pro alongside Win7, but on another drive? And, lastly. Is it possible to move a program to another hdd, changing the registry values at the rame time, so Windows knows where it is? Thanks, Rangi.

    1. The Disk Defragmenter service should be set to 'manual' in services. Post back if you need to know how to.

    2. Don't know.

    3. Here is one way: Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP There are other methods where you switch the system via the BIOS.

    4. lastly - only with very great difficulties. I would not attempt it. Uninstall and reinstall the program directing it to a folder on the other partition/disk.

I though they were serious, kinda. Okay, I don't have an Internet connection at the moment, so a few of my fav/large programs will need to wait. I've read somewhere that when you install XP after Windows 7, for Dual-boot, it can have difficulties. I'll have to find where I put my burned ISO. Oh, and can I deactivate my Win7 so it doesn't cause any issues when re-activating? Thanks, guys. :)

Okay, I went to start defragsvc under Services. Yeah, same problem, Unable to start Service and the Error message is the same as when trying to shrink partition. And I need tn shrink it, because that's where I'll install XP Pro. I have 3hdds. 160gb Sata with Win7. 320gb, with all my personal files. And 250gb for Backup and Restore. My 250gb just needs to be shrank to around 100gb, to allow 132gb for XP.

I find a great discrepancy between your post #1 and your most recent post, but if you're happy then please mark the thread as solved.

    Thanks,

Okay, I would. But I have seemed have screwed up my pc. I got xp installed, set everything up. Reboot to re-install my 2nd dvd-drive. Went tn boot, in xp hdd, i get error boot.mgr ir missing. Tried repairing with disc. Can't do anything. Tried booting from win7 hdd and get error the file windows/system32/hal.dll is missing or corrupted. Halp! Is there a way to fix without win7 disc? My mum knows where the disc is, but she'll be asleep for another 2-4 hours. I don't know what to do, I'm impatient, worried. Gah! I hope you can help.
