If you still have the old OS on the HD, then the correct way to remove it is to Delete it's partition in Disk Management. You may need to first Mark Partition as Inactive - Windows 7 Forums.
I would move all data off the old OS partition before doing this, then afterwards resize the data partition into the space using Partition Wizard Resize Partition - Video Help.
Use the PW boot CD which never fails while all others can fail except Disk mgmt.
