Guys, I do believe its a desktop PC and the battery being referred to is the button cell BIOS battery. There is no need to remove it.

Thanks Alpha. I don't know how we'd be expected to know this with no specs posted.

If you read though the whole thread you can surmise its a desktop and not a laptop, but yes detailed system specs would help a lot.

I requested specs in my post #28. I'm a dummy I can't help much without the proper specs and I'm not going hunting and pecking throug 30 plus post looking for them. I though it was a laptop.

If its a thread in the News or the Chillout Room, I don't worry about reading the whole thread. When its someone trying to fix a problem though I try to read the whole thread. If it's a long thread I try to at least read all of their posts. I don't like to miss things and get caught on it latter. Every little bit of info helps sometimes.

Does the CPU you just took out look damaged in anyway ?

Bent pins burns?

Also when you stuck the old CPU back in did it boot right away ?

what was the make of the chip you tryed to install and what is the make of the chip you had taken out originaly

That might be the clue to this thing

Long story short I got a netbook and as with all netbooks Windows is a little slow at times on it, I hadn't used Ubuntu in a long time and figured I'd give it a try since it was pretty fast on old computers, I shrunk Windows 7 50GB, put Ubuntu at the end of the hard drive, found out Ubuntu went WAY...

I've read several threads that are similar here, but I can't figure out which solution might work for me. instead of blindly trying them all and potentially messing things up, I was hoping somebody might be able to look at this and see what the problem is. A few months back, I reinstalled windows...
