    Win7 Registry Reset?

I am going to be giving my laptop to a family member soon, and I am trying to "clean it out" to make sure they get it as close to new as possible. I have ran a program to delete broken shortcuts and I have deleted all my old personal files and defragmented the hard drive.

However, I would also like to try and "reset" the windows 7 registry, as all of the keys from my time with it are still in it. I was thinking that I could download a backup file of a clean registry and use it to "reset" my registry.

    Would this work?

    Hello Fox,

The easiest way to wipe everything out and return it all back to default would be to reinstall Windows 7. :)

    Hope this helps,

To piggyback on Shawn's idea, if you have a restore partition/restore discs provided by the laptop manufacturer, just use that to restore your laptop to the original state.

Not being known as a modest person I need to promote my own tutorial
Windows 7 Installation - Prepare PC to be Sold

It is made exactly for situations like yours, to give / sell your PC as "virgin" as possible.
