virtual memory problem
I get this error about my virtual memory setup. But the thing is that this is my same setup and configuration when I was running windows xp pro. Any ideas?

Hello r2l,
What type of drive is the B drive? Usually the B letter is reserved for a floppy drive, and this would not be good for a page file. Usually it is best to have the page file set on a separate internal drive instead.
Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

Hi r2l Welcome to SF! Did you try custom assigning the paging file there? I noticed you have programs installed to a second partition rather then on the OS primary. If anything like for gaming many opt to disable the creation of the paging file or designate that to a second partition or drive as it suggests you attempted with the B letter.
Like Brink was pointing out to there the B letter wouldn't even work for a ram drive application. With 7 however you wouldn't need any of the old tricks used for XP/Vista to improve gaming performance since 7 now syncs the gpu on the video card with the cpu itself to see two processors act as one.
Floppy drive, what is that, i know what a thumb drive is, you meant that? LOL!
This was for over all performance. My B drive is a partition of my C drive. And my B drive isn't just for page file. It is also stores my TEMP folder. So your saying i don't need to trick it anymore for more performance.
Night hawk, i don't got a baller machine, so i need to do anything for my hard drives to not be slow.
Just as a reference, it is best not to use the letters A or B for HDs. Too many legacy issues are available to bite you.
The earliest form of removable media other then a punch card(rectangular paper made card with punched holes for preprogramming) or magnetic tape was the just about paper thin 5.25" floppy disk later to see a 3.5" counterpart that increased the capacity from 1.2mb to 1.44mb
Inside the disk itself a super thing platter which amounted to a super thin circular magnetic wafer was driven by the drive's mechanism. Between cd/dvd burners and bootable flash, pen drives along with external usb and eSata hard drives the old 3.5 still manages to hang on a bit longer in some cases! Putting the pagefile on a partition on the same drive as the system is pointless, you will get no performance benefit. Better off leaving the pagefile on the same partition as the system. If you want to actually get better performance out of it, use a second HDD. This "trick" as you called it never increased performance.
I know it so looks like you have two HDD in Explorer when you partition it. But you only have one physical HDD, with one link to the computer, with the ability to only handle one job at a time. Make sense?
The one thing people are starting to take notice of with the 64bit Windows is the fact that there is less data swapout to the drive with more loaded in ram there. What that does is process data more efficiently then the 32bit Windows which relies more heavily on the paging file to begin with.
On average the 64bit Windows sees about 200-300mb memory taken over the 32bit Windows explaining the MS recommend for 2.5gb over the 2gb for the 32bit Windows of the same version, edition.
As for hard drives the model of drive more then which brand will play a large role. When people ask about installing Windows on an external hard drive I have to advise against since the companies use model drives intended for "storage only" it seems!
SUN Portable Virtual Box! Once you unpack that onto the external drive and load that up to create that form of vhd there you can see the 7 installer go to work.
For direct off disk through usb? NO! Even an older version of Windows won't support a direct install through the usb bus.
On the other hand eSata still works through the onboard sata controllers or an addon card making it possible for that type simply being an extension of your typical data cable. The quality of the installation will still suffer greatly since companies will tend to use their lower end drives not perfomers in the typical prepackaged external housing there.
