| Windows 7: Should I or Shouldn't I Use a registry Cleaner |

Should I or Shouldn't I Use a registry Cleaner I've been using a computer (not this one) since 1987. The last 5 years or so I've been using these system optimizer(s) to clean junk files and remove internet traces from my system. I can see the benefits of this. I have a couple questions concerning these so-called system optimizers.
First, does Windows Disk Cleaner clean as well as these other cleaners out on the market? For the first time I'm considering simply using Disk Cleaner to do my maintenance with.
Second, these Registry cleaners. So far I really haven'[t noticed any performance increase when using these registry cleaners. I was wondering about registry entries left behind by other software after uninstalling them. Is the any way, and this may seem like a dumb question, that these entries left behind by uninstalled software, can be triggers for malware? Seems today every product or web site wants to access your computer in some shape or form. How do I know that registry entries left behind aren't somehow access the web without my knowledge. I do have 3 antimalware programs with one real time and the other two strictly for scanning.

This has been beaten to death on these forums.
"Clean as well". What's that? Does it remove as much as Brand X might? No.
You get to decide if that is "as well".
It seems to me that most people that use registry cleaners do so because they feel uncomfortable and anxious if they don't----not because it results in a measurable improvement.
I wouldn't expect anyone to do anything that left them feeling uncomfortable and/or anxious.
As with discussions about defragmenting programs and page file fiddling, few minds get changed. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Ignatz Special; 4 speed manual gearbox; factory air conditioning; one of one OS Windows 7 SP1, Home Premium, 64-bit CPU Intel Sandy Bridge i5-2500, not overclocked Motherboard Gigabyte H67A-UD3H-B3, full ATX Memory 4 GB Crucial DDR3-1333 Graphics Card none; graphics are integrated on CPU Sound Card onboard: Realtek ALC892; external: USB Behringer UF0-202 Monitor(s) Displays NEC 90GX2-BK 19" LCD Screen Resolution 800 x 640 Keyboard Leopold Tenkeyless with Cherry Blue switches, USB Mouse Logitech or Microsoft optical wired; either USB or PS 2 PSU Seasonic SS-560KM, modular Case Antec Solo II Cooling CPU: Scythe Big Shuriken; Case: Scythe Slipstream 800 & 500 Hard Drives System: Intel 320 Series SSD, 80 GB;

There is always the risk a registry cleaner can remove a 'good' entry. It is best not to use them. However, I confess to using Ccleaner (the best, in my opinion) in order to remove specific entries that I know exactly what they are and do not want them. I have many entries that are listed that if removed, certain programs would not function. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron M5040 OS Windows 8 Pro with Media Center x64 CPU AMD E-450 APU 1.65 GHz Memory 4GB Graphics Card Built-in Radeon HD 6320 Graphics Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 Cooling fan Hard Drives 500GB Internet Speed 2.86Mbps Download Speed, 2.85Mbps Upload Speed & 26ms Ping Antivirus Defender Browser IE10 |

I usually just clean specific entries from it myself when I think its needed. Having said that..... its hardly EVER needed in my understanding unless you're dealing with specific malware. If you're worried about a certain one "maybe" accessing others ..... take it out manually. | My System Specs | | Computer type Laptop System Manufacturer/Model Number Asus G74Sx OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 CPU Intel i7 2670 Qm @2.20 Motherboard AsusTek G74Sx,1.0 Memory 16 GB DDR3 Graphics Card Nvidia Geforce GTX 560M -2040mb Monitor(s) Displays Generic Screen Resolution 1600 x 900 Hard Drives Crucial M4 128 gb SSD Internal/ 500gb Western Digital internal @ 7200 rpm (love the dual internal drives!)

I have used CCLeaner and I have never saw ANY performance improvement. The same can be said with other registry cleaners/optimizers as they cause more harm than good. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion P7-1010 OS Windows 7 Professional x64 Service Pack 1 CPU AMD Athlon X4 645 Motherboard Foxxcon N-Alvorix RS880 Memory 6GB DDR3 1066 Graphics Card Sapphire Radeon HD 5670 512MB Sound Card Realtek Integrated Audio Monitor(s) Displays HP 2011x Screen Resolution 1600x900 Keyboard HP OEM- Made by Chicony Mouse HP OEM- Made by Logitech PSU Seasonic S12 II Bronze 380 Watt Case HP OEM Cooling Coolermaster Heatsink, AVC Case Fan Hard Drives 1. My experiences are the same as WinDude99.
However, I've a gut feeling that you've installed some programs that need to go in order for you to have a stable and reliable system. Please carry out the following: Install CCleaner: CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download list of STARTUP PROGRAMS

Insight. Because it is a preview, be VERY careful with antiviruses and registry cleaners, etc. They aren't geared for the new OS | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron M5040 OS Windows 8 Pro with Media Center x64 CPU AMD E-450 APU 1.65 GHz Memory 4GB Graphics Card Built-in Radeon HD 6320 Graphics Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 Cooling fan Hard Drives 500GB Internet Speed 2.86Mbps Download Speed, 2.85Mbps Upload Speed & 26ms Ping Antivirus Defender Browser IE10 Should I or Shouldn't I Use a registry Cleaner problems?
