Low Windows experience rating for Processor.

I am experiencing performance issues with one of two machines.

Both have Intel E8400 CPU on ASUS P5KPL motherboards.

In theory I would expect similar or same scoring in the Windows Experience rating.

The machine that works well scores 6.5 for CPU the sickly comp scores 5.8.

Any ideas on what could cause the CPU to drop in performance ? I don't normally bother with 'rankings' but there is a definate difference in the two machines.

Any help greatly appreciated. I will try to provide any information needed.

    Thanks

Check in task manager both have same no of cores working. If not you may change the no. of processor cores in msconfig app.

    Yay fixed !

Had a closer look inside the machine, then heatsink had become slightly detached from the CPU.

Quick clean, some new thermal paste, fitted the heatsink correctly and were up and running again. I am very lucky I didnt cook the CPU.

    Once again thanks guys
