When you say hit the floor, you mean you dropped it? If so then something may have come loose like memory or the hard drive or there may be other damage to the system board or components.

Remove the access panels from the bottom of the laptop and check memory, hard drive and anything else you can access from there. If nothing helps then you need to take it to a reputable computer repair shop.

Try opening up the computer and see if anything is loose and tighten it back up.

Install CrystalDiskInfo - Software to check the HD SMART status. Reseat HD. Should be similar to this video: How to take the hard drive out of an Emachines laptop - YouTube

Test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+ for 5-6 passes. Reseat RAM sticks.

Anyone have Emachines EL1850 desktop?? question
if any of you have this machine... I cannot figure out how to remove the PCIe card slot filler panel. I know how dumb this sounds, but it is way less than obvious to me. I don't want to try "punching" it loose from the surrounding material for fear of bending the frame. I put a little pressure on...
