Windows 7: Insufficient Memory error

Insufficient Memory error

I'm having this error that says "Insufficient Memory, please close these programs to clear up some space." The CPU meter gadget says I'm using 96% of my RAM when this error occurs.
Well, I've had this since I had Vista (I installed Win7 about 2 weeks ago). And I thought installing a new OS would solve this, guess not.
It happens at random moments, but normally when I have alot of programs open .
Oh, and I don't know if this is important but my GPU says it needs at least 300w but I only have 250w and I'm dual screening.

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

It sounds like you have more stuff running than you have RAM for. You can read thru each thing that you have installed and see if there is stuff that you don't really use/need... things that might run all of the time. You should not add more RAM unless you upgrade that power supply. More RAM requires more power.

If I might ask a question: Why did you buy the Ultimate version of Windows 7? Just wondering what feature you needed.

Hello Hawky, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Do you have your page file set to be managed by the system? If not, or you have it set to low, then this could also cause you to get these "low memory" or "insufficient memory" type warnings.

Adding more RAM would also be a good idea if you have that much open often.

Hope this helps,

Your GPU doesn't use 300W, it's the minimum recommenced with that card. I think you should consider upgrading to at least a 400W, good quality PSU to handle some overhead. You are really taxing your system. More RAM, say 8GB in a matched set, may help too.
