Toshiba laptop starts briefly and shuts down

    I have a Toshiba L305D S5895 laptop. Hdd=250, Mem=2GB, Windows Vista upgrd to Win7 Hm prem 64bit.
System power indicators does not light up except when both battery and AC are connected. When one of them (the Battery or the AC adapter) alone is plugged in, it does not light up.
When both is plugged and I hit the switch, it starts briefly showing the Toshiba logo and then shuts down and the light goes off. I have to unplug both batt and AC and reconnect them again to get the power lights up. Battery is abt 11% charge and the AC adapter is ok when I tested it on a multimeter.
I did a reset of BIOS by by pressing Switch for 30 secs before reconnecting power, but it did not help.
    I need some help friends.

Sounds like the battery has lost the ability to hold a charge. When using the ac adapter by itself you would think the laptop would run normally not being pulled down by the weak battery trying to pull a charge for the now apparently unchargable.

When disconnecting the battery and unplugging the adapter to reconnect again the initial surge is adequate at first to see the power indicator light up. That is then followed by the initial post tests which will pull on the power source the heaviest when first powering up any laptop or desktop.

Too bad you didn't have a laptop battery tester! That would show the battery as the most likely problem if nothing is wrong on the main board itself as far as a weak lithium battery or other.
