    Ccleaner

    Hello
I was advised to use the section of Ccleaner labeled, Windows and Applications if you use; temp files, history, cookies, urls, autocomplete, recent docs, run, recycle bin and clipboard.
Is this sound advise or should I just perform a disc cleanup?

Using CCleaner that way is just fine.

Myself, I don't have the Recycle bin checked. I empty it on my own. It's a personal preference.

Be advised that if you remove all cookies, you will have to re-log into your websites that require logins. You can go through all of the cookies first, and exclude (add to cookies to keep list) those cookies that you think belong to your websites that require you to login. Make sure you know all of your login info before clearing cookies.

I used to just run %temp% and disc cleanup but when I ran the Ccleaner after, and as I mentioned above, quite a few files were remaining.
It is the same old story about how much did I think I cleaned out and what good did it do,
For me, if nothing is harmed, I like my pc as clean as it can be, so i run it - if safe.
I do not think it will be any faster. It is just another little variable in the atempt to keep the machine running as well as it can.
And DBone, I run MSIE 9 and even with all the check boxes unchecked under the general tab> browsing history, I still have to log in to my mail through my ISP, Hotmail and Gmail.
Any idea why? This is Ccleaner excluded.

Then your question is whether you should use Ccleaner. Like any other program it's up the the owner operator. I can tell you this. I have use Ccleaner for years on its default settings. It works quiet well on cleaning up things. You could also try this for a little more cleaning.
    Disk Cleanup : Extended
and then run Ccleaner. Any thing left over (not cleaned up) should be Googled to check if you want to remove it.
Ccleaner has a lot of nice things it the Tool section.

One thing to remember is that by default CCleaner with not remove any temp file created in the last 24hrs on the assumption that it may still be needed. This can be changed in the Advanced Options tab.

Yes, the tools come in handy.
I use the startup manager to stop programs from, loading b/c I have a reg backup which comes up quickly.
I appreciate the tips about Google and temp files in the advanced section.
Revo has a good startup manager also.

I have used the "Cleaner" module in Ccleaner with both XP and 7 and have never once had a problem with it deleting files that the OS needed to run.
