    Share Your WinSAT Formal Scores


    (Mods, the older thread was over 500 days old, so I decided to make this thread instead of posting my results there. Just let me know if you want me to post this there instead.)

    To get the scores, run Command Processor (you may have to run it as an admin), and type "winsat formal" (without quotation marks) at the prompt. Share and compare.

    This is my system (as listed in my specs) with the CPU OCed to 4.6GHz, but with XMP and stock settings otherwise:

    Another option is to type "winsat formal >> winsat.txt" at the prompt to save the readout as a text file in the current folder. You can go to the C drive at the prompt by typing "cd c:\" and then run the WinSAT test from there as an easy way to save the text file just in your C drive instead. You can name the text file something other than "winsat" too, if you want.

    Also, if you want some more system specs info listed in addition to the benchmarks, "winsat formal -v >> winsat.txt" is an option.

    Despite the rather lousy memory and CPU performance, the winsat completed relatively fast. The SSD drive probably has a lot to do with it...

    Yeah, you guys scored higher with the SSDs than me with my HDD, of course. One of these days I'll get one. Might be a couple years yet though since I'm holding out for a 1TB one that I can reasonably afford.

    I had some of the usual background programs running too, and I could probably clock up the RAM and the video card's GPU and RAM a bit more, but I'm using the benchmark mostly to compare normal usage options, not so much just going for a high score. For example, seeing what kind of improvements there are taking my CPU from a stock max of 3.8GHz to a max of 4.6GHz. I don't intend to leave it running that high, but I would be pretty confident in its prolonged reliability setting its max at 4.2GHz to 4.4GHz, or so.

    Unless you built your computer to beat other computers at benchmarking competitions, the main thing really of course is that it performs well enough and reliably enough for your needs.

    I think the WinSAT Formal tests seem to work as a great built-in benchmark to let you know how your system is performing overall and to test different settings and hardware options, more so (or at least with more detail) than the WEI numbers alone do.

    I'm actually a little surprised that I haven't heard more about it and seen more posts and threads about it in various forums. I'm guessing that maybe it's just that most people haven't heard about it.

    When your system's three major components, CPU, memory, video, that are literarly running circles around the same in my system, your machine should have better completion time. I am not sure just how this benchmark is an accurate reflection of the overall system performance?

    On the other hand, this benchmark is certainly good for emphasising the importance of IO performance and the need for SSD...

    I'm not seeing the completion time as a main overall score, but looking more at each individual score.

    But yes, the SSDs likely do help out a lot.

    I suppose it's a good thing that I can't easily "cheat" and use a RAM drive for the HD tests...
