Check Control Panel>Power Options, under Balanced Plan check Advanced Settings for Sleep (suggest 30-60 mins), enable Hybrid Sleep, then set Hibernate at 60-90 mins. You can test these by temporarily setting them at 1 and 2 minutes.
Sleep issues are most often the Display driver. First try updating it. Check Important and Optional Windows Updates after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3). Then try rolling it back in Device manager. Try another Windows 7 or Vista driver.
