Does disabling this logo improve startup speed?

    See if this helps:

GUI Boot - Enable or Disable in Windows

It really won't speed up boot time. Some of these suggestions might help:

If you still have the preinstalled bloatware then this is freeloading on your startup which causes impaired performance. This is why most tech enthusiasts choose to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Short of that I'd Clean Up Factory Bloatware and do the Optimizing Steps which Lee posted above rather than disabling the nice Win7 boot animation which has no effect whatsoever on startup speed.

If slow startup persists even after reinstall or cleaning up bloatware and optimizing then work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 to check all of the system resources and logs.

As a last resort you can determine with certainty the cause of a slow startup by Gathering a Startup, Shutdown, Sleep, Hibernate, or Reboot Trace

Even more so, since HP has the worst load of factory bloatware in the industry which cripples Win7 native state.

Read the Special Notes to HP Owners at the end of Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.
