Possible new CPU for my PC.

Just finished flashing system bios to the latest revision. The Asus flash utility made it a breeze. I also made a backup of the old bios, which I can restore if I start having issues with the new revision.
Excellent news...now days flashing the bios is much easier than back in the day.

So far so good. I haven't noticed any hiccups yet. Now the way is clear for me to install a 3rd generation CPU like the 3770k. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Apart from be carefull and to put your bios to default again before you pop the cpu in

I think changing from a 2500K to either of the options mentioned would depend on what you use your computer for. I have all 3 CPU's, and unless you are doing several multi threaded tasks, I would say no. The 2500K is a great CPU and will do most anything you need. The only reason to switch to either i7 is if you need the other cores, which most people don't. It does not help with gaming. It will help if you do a lot of HD video encoding or such work as that. Otherwise it is a waste of money.

This was exactly the kind of feed back I was looking for. I thought that might be the case, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask some of the more knowlegeable members for their opinions.

Have you considered the i5 3570k it is a hell of a chip and is a bit of an improvment over your current one. It is a better gamer. Better energy efficient. And is one of the best chips out there. There would be a diffrence between it and the 3770k. If you can afford the 3770k then get it. But if you dont then get the 3570k or an older age i7

Not a thing, as you explained very well in your previous post. Thank you! I am not going to spend the money to upgrade my CPU if it wouldn't make much of a difference in my PC's performance.
