    SFC scannow cannot repair autochk.exe

    Hi
I have Window Seven family on my laptop

It goes quite well. but doing some maintenance, I noticed that SFC scannow detected a problem.
From the log (sfc detail below) it seems to me that it is autotchk.exe is corrupted, both in Windows and in Windows backup store.

I can however do a checkdsk which go fine, and do not detect problem (it seems to often be the case when the autochk.exe is currupted). So it goes well.

As suggested on many thread, I redid many sfc scans, reboot and retry (seven times at least) without change.

O course I did also many virus and spyware scan, both software and online, an the PC is clean, so it don't seems to be the problem

I would like an easy remedy, as I don't want to spend days reinstalling Windows, software and settings, and as everything else seems fine.

1 - I was wondering it the autochk.exe is really to be changed, and if this is the only SFC problem. (I posted scan details)

2 - And if so, is this a way I can just copy Autotchk.exe from another PC running window (32 bits as the laptop, in Ultimate or Starter version (both at hand) and replace it in Window.
OR to take it from a friend PC that have Seven Family (exactl like the laptop)

If so, question : should I take the both Autochd (the one in system 32 AND the one in
    C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-autochk_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_e3fb573520033bfa (probably the backup store)

And also should I change also both autochk.exe.mui which are in the same file or is it pointless ?

Or, if not possible, where and how can I get an clean autochk.exe ?

3 - Or is the whole thing unecessary, and am I better to leave things as they are ?

Tank you for reading and for you advice.

    Marie.

    Hi
Thank you for your answer. I as aware of this tutorial but was hopind to only copy the file from another PC.

I tryed to proceed as suggested, and now have the file, but I really cannot change the Windows file by the new one, even in an elevated command prompt.

By the way, looking again in the scf result détails, I noticet that Winiet dll is also defective.

Isn't a easier way to have sfc scannow to get uncorrupted file itsel from the DVD ?
Or to repair only the scf "store" ?

Did you have the dvd in when you did the scan.

To replace the file you could use your recovery disk and place the file on a flash drive can replace it with the command prompt.

A repair install might also help solve the problem, but I believe you will lose some things.

Do you have the log file?

You can also attempt a do restore the pc with a system restore point.

    Hi
Sorry, but i am not sure what you mean. could you specify

Do you mean that doing sfc /scan with the Windows DVD in would do the trick ?

By "Recovery disk" you mean the one I made after installing Window Sevens ?

Système restore I tryed many timesm (this is alway may "first solution") but that did not repair scannow corrupted files.

The SFC result file was posted on my firt message or would you like another log ?

Yes, you could also attempt it from the winRE environment. The command is a little different though.

As long as it takes you to the winRe

    Hi!

    Using sfc /scannow /offbootdir=f:\ /offwindir=f:\windows
The command prompt at boot just get the very same results as the regular scannow

Do you know if this is a command to repair from the DVD files, rather than again from the Window "store file" which are also corrupted.... as we know from the begenning.

    Thank you
