High CPU Utilization

Dear All,

I am using HP ProBook 4520s laptop with Windows 7 Professional Edition with Service Pack 1 (Registered windows). I am using this laptop since more than a year and it was working absolutely fine. However now CPU utilization shoots to 100 % without any reason. Sometime Skype takes most of the CPU and sometime task manager and sometimes Outlook or Google Chrome. I have re-installed Windows couple of times but situation didn't get any better. I have antivirus installed and system has been scanned regularly for viruses and no virus found so far. Can you please help me to diagnose this issue to find out the root cause and fix it?

I will be really thankful for any suggestion, advise on this issue.

Regards,

Zaeem

NOw zaeem does this mena you have two antivirus suites on board? if so mate you should really just stick to one as they very often conflict.

For some on call scanners try these

Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!

AdwCleaner Download

Give them a run and let us know if anything comes up ans also if you do have more than one proactive antivirus running.

Yes I have AVG Antivirus and Microsoft Security Essentials on my system. I will un-install them and try your suggested ones and get back to you with the updates.

I think,my mate meant,you should keep only one AV.Dont uninstall both,keep one,keep essentials.The suggestions are on-demand scanners,not AVs.

Yep that is right zaeem if you are looking for a totally new security though - Comodo is free and in my humble opinion better than either of the ones you have already (both do not rate very good in the AV comparisons) but the choice as always is yours. Personally I use Kaspersky Internet Security Suite (ISS) 2013 on all my machines.

PC Security, PC Internet Security, Free Desktop PC Security Protection < it has arguably the best firewall there is.

The bottom line too is you just need to be careful yourself re surfing and emails because no ISS is totally foolproof.

The ones I gave you are on call scanners and do nt provide a proactive security that is they do not run as you surf they are used by most in SF for the stuff that the main security occasionally misses.

If you d decide to change be aware that you will need the special uninstall tool for AVG

Hum nice ref LB it beggars belief that someone would make something like that up (trojan) and for no apparent reason other than to annoy the living heck out of someone.
