    chkdsk runs on startup

    Hi,

I just started up my Toshiba laptop after it overheated and shut down, and Windows showed the Starting Windows screen, then I got a black screen with chkdsk running on it.

Does anyone know why that happened?
Is it a virus or something?

    Thanks,

That is no virus. It does that because there is something in disorder on your HDD. If it continues on subsequent boots, post back and we'll see what we can do.

Agreed. It shows up as autochk. Windows will automatically schedule a chkdsk if the HDD problem flag is set. The flag was probably set as a result of the hard power-off.

    Back up your data.

Run a full Disk Check with both boxes checked.

Run the HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan. If none run Partition Wizard Partition surface test
