Are you just looking at the Free memory to determine how much is left over? You need to include both the Free and Available memory. Win 7 caches some data which is represented by the Available memory. If the system needs more memory then the Available memory is released.

The Windows 7 memory manager will use as much memory as it can to allow faster system operation.

It will anticipate what software you may use, based on experience, and load it into RAM (memory).

If needed, it will relinguish that memory for any new software that is started by you.

Unused RAM is wasted RAM.

Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

Hi,
I am having the same issue as of recently. More than 50% of my RAM is used even when nothing else is running, and when I start using any additional programs, even if it's just a browser, it goes to almost 100%, slowing my computer down so much, that it is making my job very difficult.
I also cleaned and removed all unnecessary programs and processes that may be causing it, but the issue is not solved. I have Windows 7 Ultimate, 32bit.
What you saying that Windows 7 memory manager is taking up that much memory, but that it should free it up for anything else that needs it. But the memory doesn't free up for me, any additional task takes up additional memory.
Do you have any idea what may be causing this?
Thanks!

Between Windows 7 and Google Chrome, that sounds about right as far as RAM usage......unfortunately.

Two explorer.exe, one taking up to 3 gigs system memory
So the other thread was no help, so I started this one. When I start up my computer and after its loaded (in normal and clean boot) an explorer.exe shows up and starts rapidly ballooning up over the 2 million bits mark, making my computer really slow. I've cleaned with Comodo, Malwarebytes...

HD has 68 Gigs free, yet only shows 45 gigs
Hello. The C drive in my computer is 139 GB (150 GB hard drive). Windows shows that there is 45.5 GB free, but if I select the contents of the drive and check the properties, it says that everything on the drive is taking up 70.8 GB on the disk. But in doing the math (139-70.8 = 68.2) it looks...

only 2.5 gigs ram in 64 bit?
Hey Guys, I was going to buy Windows 7 anyway, so i decided to get 64bit so i could use all of the ram on my computer (4gigs, plus my SLi video cards have 500mb or 1gig each, can't remember) Since vista 32bit could only use 3.5 gigs but now to my dismay it seems like i can still only use 2.5...
