Disk Defragmenter doesn't check C:

I've used the Win 7 built in Disk Defragmenter since day one. Noticed about two months ago that it is not checking C:. It checks the other included drives (an external HDD and a Recovery drive) on schedule.

I have tried unchecking and rechecking and changing scheduled times all to no avail. As a workaround I manually analyze the drive...when I remember. Any idea why the program stopped checking the most important drive?

Cleaning and defragging is much less urgent in Windows 7. I recommend quarterly unless CCleaner finds more than 1gb of schmutz to clean up, then approx monthly.

I'd run CCleaner Cleaner and Registry tabs, followed by Puran free defragger for it's Boot Time Defrag which gets System Files, too, and has an Intelligent Optimzier to enable on the Additional operations tab to moves most-used files/programs to the outer edge of the disk for faster reads.

Thanks for reminding me that there are other options to accomplish the task and that Defragmenting is not needed too often. Which bring up another concern, is the Defragmenter running in the background as it should?

I'd really like to figure out why Disk Defragmenter is not checking C:.

Could it be related to Taks Manager or something along those lines?

There's any number of reasons it might not be. Try running it manually. I'd turn it off in Scheduler myself.

Then work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 to check it over real good.

It works fine manually. First real problem in 2+ years with a Win 7 built in. Will work through the steps provided.

If you're still running the HP preinstall that is the worst load of corrupting bloatware in the industry. No tech enthusiast would run such an install, but instead most all will Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
to get rid of the Bloatware that throttles Windows 7 native performance.

At least I would Clean Up Factory Bloatware to turn off all the crap starting on the back of Windows 7, most of which is useless suplicate utilities/spyware that have better versions built into Windows 7.
